add some music
I’m a PhD student specializing in popular music studies, especially in a history of blues, rock, and contemporary artists. A critic, fan, and researcher of popular music, my dissertation concerns how sounds become associated with cities, with a focus on the Minneapolis Sound. I’ve published academic papers on American popular music and topics such as music localities and identities, the music industry, and relations between culture, music, and politics. I’m an author of the book Say Yes! to Michigan (2017) about Sufjan Stevens’ vision of the state of Michigan in his Michigan LP. I was a visiting researcher at Dickinson College in 2015 and at the University of Minnesota in 2018.
